The recent sculptures by Swedish artist Erik Öberg are intricate in detail and intensely emotional in their presentation. Erik’s sculptures are a reference to the still life tradition which often present hidden meanings and symbols. Following this tradition, a commentary on greed, consumption and a foreshadowing of our future demise lies hidden within his works.
Erik Öberg’s sculptures are intricately made with fragile and warm materials. The resulting objects evoke a sense of uncertainty as they could be soft or strong, dead or alive, temporary or permanent.

Erik Öberg (b. 1987) is a Swedish artist based in Stockholm. He holds an MFA in Textile from Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm 2017.
Öberg’s sculptures linger halfway between taxidermy and botany, seduction and brutality. The work explores temporality and desire as well as expectations and assumptions of nature and disturbs them. Öberg leads the viewer into the duality between intentions and consequences of constructing utopia and the brutality of anthropocentrism, in which the familiarity of the recognizable is transformed to something more foreign. Erik Öberg’s work has since his graduation been exhibited at Björkholmen Gallery, Crum Heaven, Konsthall Marieholm and Gustavsbergs Konsthall.
